Mahomes was at his best with the game on the line.
And when facing impossible situations.

And when trailing big.

(The Chiefs were 5-1 this year when trailing by double digits. They lost to the Packers with Matt Moore as QB.)
Related stat: Chiefs played 9 games against teams the made the playoffs. Overall, they went 6-3. Mahomes beat every playoff team he faced: 49ers, Patriots, Ravens, Texans, Titans, Vikings. He needed two tries to beat the Texans and Titans, but won when it mattered. The one playoff team the Chiefs didn't beat was the Packers, again without Mahomes.

When Mahomes needs to put the team on his back, he absolutely comes through. Last year the defense wasn't good enough to keep pace. This year it was.

Maybe instead of the narrative being that Shanahan screwed up the playcalling or that Jimmy G wasn't good enough, it should be that the KC defense wore down the SF O-line and changed the game in the 4th quarter.
And now it's confirmed. Q39 is championship BBQ.
