2013 NHL Playoffs Calcutta

It's really even. The teams I wanted were the Penguins, Bruins, Rangers, Senators. I of course wanted the Blackhawks but preferred the Penguins and knew I couldn't get both 1 seeds.

Didn't really want the Ducks, Blues, or Capitals, but it happens. We've got 5 first-round series with skin in the game. Let's dig in.

Only team that I don't have that I wish I did is Chicago, so I'm happy with my picks. I even let Mark have his precious Red Wings. This way, it will be so much sweeter when they lose.

  1. Going into the auction, I thought the best teams were in the West and that the Penguins were the only good team in the East, and therefore the best buy. I thought you were going to go higher on the Blackhawks and then I would get the Penguins. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with Chicago and they have a great shot at making me some shekels.

I NEED Montreal to do well, otherwise you'll basically take all of the East. I'm not counting on the Maple Leafs to do much.

Obviously, a Wings round 1 win would be great. I'd rather have them than hedge my rooting interests. A Kings victory over St. Louis would also be likewise doubly enjoyable.

After a 10 games, 3 have gone my way. I'm worried. I especially don't like that the Blues took the first two at home. However, the Wings won a game in Anaheim, so now we just have to hold court at home. Wings in 6.

  2. Also, I liked getting all of the teams at the end when I was able to outbid you. Who knows, last year the 8th seeded Kings rode a hot goalie to a dominant Stanley Cup victory. Anything is possible.

  3. Feeling good about Penguins, Bruins, Blues and I'll get one out of Caps/Rangers.

    You've got Blackhawks/Wild and Canucks/Sharks.

So the two series I'm paying closest attention to are Wings/Ducks and Sens/Canadiens.
I liked the Sens because they had the lowest goals allowed in the regular season. They won game one, but I expect this to go 6 or 7 games.

I'd happily give you the Canadiens if it meant the Ducks would advance. This could get boring for a bit if we each end up owning a conference.

  4. I can't believe I have the West and you're probably going to have the East (I'm assuming the Bruins beat the Leafs). Maybe the simplest solution is to involve more people next time.
