quick thoughts on chiefs/lions/draft

So the Lions have a new coach and the Chiefs have a new GM.

It seems that the Lions already are committed to taking Stafford #1. Which means that if the Chiefs wanted to take a QB with the 3rd pick, they only guy might be USC's Sanchez. Now Sanchez could be good, or he could be a bust, I don't really know enough about him. But, what I do know is that Pioli could judge talent in New England, and I think that he's going to make the right decisions at the QB position. All my life the Chiefs were under the same GM. Now we've got a guy who allegedly knows how to build a team. Let's see it happen.

As for Herm's fate, I like what he says. I liked that he was going to rebuild and focus on defense. Except that our defense still stinks. So I haven't seen anything that makes me think he knows how to deliver on what he says. He's not a Super Bowl winning coach. So let's get someone who can be.

Update: Hilarious tidbit from Mark Schlereth when asked if the new Detroit head coach was the right guy for the Lions: "Vince Lombardi isn't the right guy for the Lions. Nobody's the right guy for the Lions."

  1. i'm glad we got a defensive guy, and schwartz has been interviewing for jobs for awhile and has a good reputation, but i'd much rather have pioli than anybody else. i think you guys got lucky. why did he leave the patriots?

schwartz is a start, but we need a new GM and owner, too.

i want the lions to trade down and stack the lines. i'm glad we fleeced the cowboys for those picks for roy williams.

  2. Well, you already got your new GM. Martin Mayweh. He looks fast.

And you're never getting a new owner. I mean he'll pass the team to his son, and I wouldn't expect anything to change.

  3. i want it on the record that i think we're going to see a pennsylvania super bowl, unless "ben" gets another spinal concussion and matt stover wins it for the ravens.
