Softball 2007: Game Five Preview

Generally speaking it's hard to have a must-win game at the mid-point of a season, but that's what we're facing tonight. Except we don't even know if we're going to be able to play.

We're 2-2 facing our #1 rival, who happens to be 3-1. We know there's also a 4-0 team (game 4 opponent), and presumably another 3-1 team (game 2 opponent) as well.

Those teams are so solid, it's reasonably to assume they'll be 5-0, and 4-1 after tonight. If we lose our rival will also be 4-1 and we'll be 2-3. That's ugly. That puts us in a position for a first round-playoff matchup against a top team. [Every team makes the playoffs, but our team hasn't made it out of the first round, at least in the generation of our captain, which is all I have to go on. We're the Tracy McGrady of Advertising softball.]

But if we win, we'll be 3-2 and own the tiebreaker over our rival who will also be 3-2. Which could prove important for getting a favorable first round matchup.

With all that on the line, I should be really nervous, and I am getting a little worked up typing all this, but I haven't been thinking about it too much. Because the weather report says its going to rain. It's still clear but a little gray right now.

Looks like a game-time decision.

Update: Less than 3 hours to the first pitch and clear skies. Captain says the games are still on.
