Best Movies I Saw in 2025

I watched 75 movies this year.

42 I watched for the first time.

33 I had seen before.

There were two movies, that both came out in 2025 that fit into both categories. Mission Impossible 8 and The Naked Gun.

I saw 19 movies that came out in 2025.

The worst was A House of Dynamite. I thought Sinners was wildly overrated, or at least wildly not for me.

Also honorable mention to Saturday Night, The Holdovers, Will & Harper as great movies that I saw for the first time in 2025. They didn't come out in 2025 so they don't make the first list and they're not up with the all-time greats of the second list, but still notable.

Best Movies I Saw in 2024

Time for my annual movie-watching roundup.

I watched 100 movies this year.

47 I had seen before.

53 I watched for the first time.

I intentionally tried to rewatch some of my favorite movies, leading the ratio being different than previous years.

Instead of linking to my reviews, I'm just including screenshots directly.

Best Movies I Saw in 2023

I started doing this last year, so let's do it again.

As of today, I've marked that I've watched 1141 films all-time, and 111 this year.

Last year, I was at 1070 all-time films. So of the 111 this year, 71 were new and 40 were ones I had seen before.

5. The Killer

4. Derren Brown: Showman

3. John Wick 4

2. Missing

1. Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One

I was about to do a top 5 I saw for the first time in 2023, but the only addition would have been Top Gun Maverick (2022).

So instead I'll just do this, without any restrictions on when it came out or whether or not I had seen it before.:

Best Movies I Saw In 2022

So Niraj got me into Letterboxd. Which got me into watching a lot more movies than usual. Especially from August to November it became my latest fad, following a series that includes chess, crosswords, pasta journey, Medium, daily favorites, etc. I recognize that these are short-lived phases and I embrace that.

Anyways, I have some public-facing stats from the year.

I watched 215 movies this year, easily the most I've ever done.

141 were movies I had never seen before, bringing my current total up to 1,070 unique movies that I've marked as watched.

Just like I do with blog posts, I thought it would be fun to do an end of the year recap with movies. I lot of serious movie buffs focus only on the movies that came out in 2022, but I only saw a handful from this year.

So instead, I'll organize my lists in a few categories around what I saw this year. First up...
